Many people have problems sleeping in new places, or in foreign beds. I'm thinking about buying a new sleeping bag/pad combo from Big Agnes for camping, and I'm wondering how long it would take me to get used to sleeping on it. I've heard that it usually takes about a week.
My idea is to sleep on the floor in my bedroom on this for a week and see if I'm used to it by then. I will do this before a camping trip so that I don't have to adjust while on the trip, and lose sleep. Has anyone done this before or have any opinions about it? (Website to the sleeping bad/pad combo to follow) http://www.bigagnes.com/str_bag_home.php |

I've got that combo [Great bag BTW even without the pad] and I have done this.... Actually I sleep on a Paco pad every night as I travel a lot [Read: Too lazy to haul a bed]... And it's very nice on the river when everyone else is getting used to it and I have my bed from home!!

At the very least sleep outside on the ground. I think that night noises cause more discomfort for newbie campers than actually sleeping on the ground does.
I haven't used the Big Agnes stuff but it looks well made . |

if you hike for long enough hours in to your camp site you fall asleep just about anywhere. but if you want to be comfortable, clear area of all twigs and replace with leaves the same way chimps do in the forest and create a bedding under your tent also the rotting leaves will give off a natural source of heat when they are decomposing just enough to keep you toasty at night.

You'll know how long it takes on the first morning you wake up from sleeping all night. It differs with every person.
