I'm taking my wife camping for Saturday and Sunday.
What food can I pack that needs no refrigeration? Also, it's her first time camping but not mine. |

I just went camping for the first time too. Try 2 E.L. Fudge striped cookies with a melted marshmallow in between. A thousand times better than a regular smore! Have fun!

You can cook up a feast for her - and it will be really good. Sounds like you must be backpacking - so no cooler at all?
If so, check out http://www.freezerbagcooking.com The site has lots of great ideas using instant foods and canned or pouch proteins (tuna, chicken, etc.) Have fun! |

try freeze dried foods or MRE's. Most sporting goods stores such as Dick's or Cabela's have these, and you might even find some at Wal-Mart.

Freeze-dried or canned foods (potatoes, tuna, ham, etc.). You can also bring slim jims and cooked bacon in the vacuum-sealed packs. I've also brought take-out chinese food which has so much MSG on it that it won't go bad either. Crackers, nuts, granola bars, cereal bars, trail mix, pringles are good for snacks.

I am assuming you are packing and not car camping, so will list some light foods.
*Cheese - Guda, Edam whatever is packaged in wax works. Really, any hard cheese should be fine for a two day trip. *Smoked Salmon - Some needs refrigeration and some doesn't depending on how it was cooked. My wife and I always have smoked salmon and cheese on our favorite crackers whether we are dayhiking, backpacking, or just picnicing *If you have a dehydrater, you can dehydrate some homemade chili or marianara sauce. Combine with noodles of choice, and gourmet on the trail. *Instant mashed potatoes with seasoning packet by Betty Crocker? *Whiskey or bourbon *Nuts *Lipton makes some decent sides. Pastas and rices. *Powdered milk and cereal for B'fast |
